Metal roofing has been becoming more common to see in a home. With the prices of oil being so high, asphalt shingles and metal roofs have been becoming more and more comparable in prices. Metal roofing jobs are different than asphalt shingle roofing jobs though. Metal roofs usually take less time, and are less labor intensive than many asphalt shingle roofing jobs.

With the big surge in the number of people who want metal roofs, metal roofing jobs have been becoming easier to find. Another great bonus is that the tools that you need for a metal roof are pretty much the same tools you need for an asphalt roof, with a few exceptions. For example, a metal roof requires metal snipes and metal roofing screws instead of regular roofing screws.

Metal roofs are nearly as easy to put on as asphalt roofs, however, they can be interesting with a high slope. The overhang with a metal is the same as the overhang with a asphalt roofing job. Unlike some asphalt roofing jobs, if there are currently asphalt shingles on the roof you should remove them. This will make sure that your base is solid and will not cause any problems. Once you have removed the asphalt shingles, you can then apply tar paper which will be the base of the new metal roof.

Depending upon the size of the sheets of metal, you may want a second person to help you carry them onto the roof. Repeat this process until you have layered the roof with the metal roofing sheets, secured them and finished. Metal roofs are often more durable than many asphalt roofs, but it always depends on the quality of materials and the workmanship that was used to put them on the building.

Whether you are able to locate a metal roofing job or asphalt roofing job usually depends on where you live. Many asphalt roofing jobs are still in demand in the northern section of the United States, where they have traditionally been located. People who live in a more rural setting will have more luck finding metal roofing jobs. Being versed in both metal and asphalt roofing techniques can help you provide your customers with valuable advice which can land you even more roofing jobs in the future! Do not wait to learn about metal roofs, they may be the way of the future!
