Asphalt roofing is one of the most common types of roofing. However, it can be one of the most difficult types of roofs to put on a home. It is extremely labor intensive, and the shingles as well as other materials are very heavy. There are a few ways that you can reduce the amount of time and pain that you could suffer from with asphalt roofing jobs!

Depending on the local rules and regulations, you may need to remove the roof is there is one or two layers of shingles already on the home. In most local areas, you are able to roof right over the first layer of shingles. However, an easy way to reduce the stress of labor in a tear off roof is to attack it in smaller sections. While you may feel that you want to go straight into it, ripping off the roof in smaller sections will save your body.

Another common pain in asphalt roofing jobs is getting the shingles to the roof. The packages of shingles are very heavy, and difficult to carry up the ladder. While many professional companies may have machines that can lift the shingles onto your roof, there is a simple solution. For people who do not have a machine that can carry shingles to the roof, you can simply use a rope around the package of shingles. Make sure it is tied in at least two directions to make sure you have a good grip on the shingles.

Once you have all the materials in the right place, make sure to use the materials properly, and that the shingles are aligned in the right direction. Most of the time when there is a roofing problem, it is from someone not knowing what they are doing. If you are not sure about something, take a break until you can be sure that it is correct.

Try to avoid doing any asphalt shingle roofs during extremely hot days, but if you have to always wear gloves when doing so. Asphalt shingles become extremely hot during days when the sun is bright overhead and can easily burn a hand. Once your asphalt roof has been complete, keep an extra package of shingles in your garage or shed in order to repair any lose shingles that may come along. Do not forget to contact the manufacturer if your shingles stop working before the warranty is up! If you are looking at posting an asphalt roofing jobs, consider using one of the many roofing job listing websites. photo credit: DrJohnBullas
