Most roofing jobs are to replace or repair shingles on a roof, but it’s not unheard of to have requests from home owners to do other tasks with Roofing work. One for example, is fighting of ants and other pests that are damaging their home. Many home owners are not comfortable getting out on a roof and prefer to hire others to help them with their problem.

Ants on the roof is a unique problem and requires a focused plan to rid the pests from doing more roofing damage. To get rid of ants on the roof:

Find the origin of the ant problem. Instead of spraying an entire roof for the problem, find the specific locations where the ants are coming from. This will help end the problem, save costs, and not require you to come back often.

Check the chimney. This is often the source and a great material for ants to make their home in. Solve this problem saves home owners a lot of time and money.

Check the attic. If the ants are on the outside of the home they are probably already on the inside also. Having an ant infestation in the attic can be a pain in itself but its good to know where the problems are so you can solve them quickly

Understand the type of ant you’re dealing. Different ants respond differently to different pesticides and traps. Make sure you attack the problem correctly

Attack the problem. Once you know where the ants are, what kind they are, and the damage they’ve done, start placing poison traps and spraying to remove the problem from the roof

Check back often, make sure that the problem is really gone and that it wasn’t a temporary fix

Keep the roof clean. Have it sprayed down and free from birds nests or other types of things that could attract pests.

If the above seems like a bit too much for you as a roofer, it may be a good idea to partner with a pest control company. There are a number of Northern Virginia Pest Control companies and I know of a few in Pest Control companies in North Carolina as well that are comfortable working in attics and on roofs. I’m sure there are some in each state of the country.

One of the first things that you should do any time you’re hiring a roofer to replace an old roof is ensure that it’s in their contract that they’ll also remove from the property your old roofing materials. Too often, shady roofing companies will get you locked in to extra costs by dumping the old shingles on the ground and then after the work is complete explaining the extra costs to remove the old junk from your property.

When you receive a quote from any roofer, be sure that “Removal” is a line item in the quote. Not all roofers that don’t include that detail will try and make you pay extra for the removal of old materials, but it’s better to be safe than sorry and make sure all the details of the contract are clear.

The surface area of your roof is often significantly greater than you’d originally imagine and the shingles and tar removed when you replace a roof quickly can stack up to a giant ugly pile in your yard. If you’re not lucky enough to have a truck of your own to haul this stuff off you could be stuck trying to figure out what to do.

If it’s too late, and your roofer has completed the new job, left the junk on the side of the house, and is now asking you for more $$ to remove it from your property – Just say No! Don’t do it. This will only encourage them to do something similar in the future. Instead look up a company like Reliable Hauling and have them come out and remove the junk. The cost would probably be significantly less than what the roofer is charging you and allow you to keep the principle of honesty.

It is a shame that these type of roofing companies are out there, but don’t let yourself fall victim to them.

We all want to live in a beautiful and stylish dwelling. If you are planning to make some renovations on your home, one of the first things that you should look at would be your roof! While this may not bother you in the heat of summer, it will start to plague you when the rainy days and snowy nights arrive. This would also make a difference in your budget and how much you would potentially spend. Before you stress yourself out in trying to figure out the best roofing job for your house, you need to consider the following factors first before making a decision.

Is there really a huge difference between various roofing jobs? A roofing improvement would be different from a roof repair. In the simplest of terms, repairing your roof would mean that there is something broken that needs to be fixed. Some of the most common examples would be trying to fix a leak in your roof, or covering a hole that may cause dirt and dust to get into the house. Roofing improvements would consist of remodeling and making your house a lot better. This could mean repainting your roof, adding a few layers or putting protective covering on your home. Either way, roof improvements should add value to your abode so you can enjoy the benefits of a beautiful and functional home.

If you are still not so sure about how to go about improvements in your home, you can hire the services of a roofing contractor. These roofing professionals are well versed in the construction industry and they should be able to provide you relevant advice. Just make sure that you are also able to choose the roofing contractor that is certified and understands exactly what needs to be done in your home!

Finding a job in this economy can be stressful, but being able to land a roofing job in your area is not as difficult as you think. As in any type of profession or career, you want to make sure that you possess the right amount of experience and capability to perform what is asked of you by your clients Getting hired for a roofing job is quite unique from other individual professions because it takes more than just a degree or a course learned online. It is a dirty and hard labor job that requires a lot of skill, discipline and focus.

If you are a newbie to the roofing industry and you’re trying to find a job that will work for you, try to look up the names of the roofers in your local community. Some of these companies are willing to take internships so that you can gain the experience that you need to get hired. There are also some courses and training classes that will teach employees what to do in the event that their roof gets damaged. Most of these modules would also require some type of on the job training to be able to apply everything you’ve learned while in class.

Once you are able to gain some experience in roofing and roofing jobs, it’s now time for you to open up your options to the job market. You can start with your immediate network: try to ask your family, friends or former colleagues if they know of any openings or job opportunities. Aside from that, you can also ask the company that trained you in these courses. They typically do a tie up partnership with other roofing companies, so you may get to find some referrals in the process. Finding roofing employment has never been this easy with these quick and simple tips!

This is a guest post by Jen Reichter, a friend of mine and an Account Manager at Jobfox. There have been a lot of people asking us about how to better use online job listings to find roofing jobs and work, so I thought it’d be great if Jen stopped by and shared some great information about the company she works for.

Jobfox uses matching technology to ensure that you are working with a pool of candidates that meet the minimum requirements for your jobs. They will also post all of your jobs for you at no additional cost, which takes the work out of setting up the jobs and gets you to what you do best- sourcing quality candidates. Because Jobfox posts the jobs for you, all you have to do is ‘fine tune’ with some very user friendly tools, such as highlighting specific skills and turning on the ‘must have’ filters to specific industry knowledge or degree level.

As an Account Manager for Jobfox, I’ve worked with a number of construction industry clients over the years who have found that utilizing the site helped them to quickly find candidates who already had an understanding of the construction landscape. For example, by turning on a mandatory filter for construction only, candidates from this industry are instantly called up in your candidate match list. From there, you can focus on the key skill requirements for the position and begin to reach out to candidates that fit the bill. Jobfox is hardly a scam, considering that I’ve been involved in helping so many construction clients and construction job seekers connect over the years.

There are a number of time saving tools as well, such as the ability to mass forward candidates to a hiring manager or include notes that follow the candidate within your company, allowing other recruiters to see that you are interested. For those companies that do not have an applicant tracking system (ATS), Jobfox also includes many ATS-like features, such as moving candidates into Yes/Maybe/No folders, where candidates are alphabetized for easy reference. If you inactivate a job and reactivate it in a few months, your folders remain the same, so that you don’t have to go back and find those candidates a second time. Moving candidates to your YES folder also generates an email to the candidate, similar to an ATS, to notify them of your company’s interest. Do not worry, as your specific contact information is not included, but we hear from job seekers all the time how much they appreciate having some information on the company’s interest level.

For those of you who have an ATS, Jobfox also interfaces nicely with many of the ATS vendors, allowing you to ‘invite’ candidates to apply directly to your website, as well as redirecting them to your website to complete the application process. This gives you access to a unique pool of candidates that you can reference in your ATS, as statistics show there is very little overlap between Jobfox candidates and other job boards. For more information, see this detailed article on what the Jobfox scam issue is all about, and why Jobfox is a great job site.

The roofing industry is one of the most popular skilled labor offerings. There are many different jobs in roofing. It doesn’t matter, what specific type of roofing you are interested in. Three of the well known types of roofing are commercial, residential, and industrial. Although there are similar jobs in these fields, position requirements are often different. Experienced and inexperienced job seekers will enjoy the opportunities the industry provides.

There are many ways to access these job opportunities depending on where you live. The internet is a common factor when it comes to job searches. You will discover that the roofing industry displays opportunities throughout the internet. There are thousands of roofing job boards, which list openings. These openings are not central to specific locations, but rather they are national opportunities.

If you are looking for local roofing jobs, there are important locations to consider. Your local newspaper will be a good place to look. The advertisement section of the paper offers job seekers opportunities in the area. Many newspapers around the country have online counterparts for internet searchers to access. These advertisements may offer quicker access to possible jobs in the roofing industry.

Almost every city in the country has private contractors, as well as, roofing businesses. Contacting these businesses or visiting their websites is a great way to find roofing jobs. Here you will see jobs, salaries, and requirements of each opportunity. As you begin to find possible jobs, there are a number of considerations to make. The experience you have will be the best tool for finding a specific roofing job.

Some of the most popular positions in the industry are foremen, installers, estimators, repair specialists, and field superintendents. These are just a few of the crucial jobs available in the field of roofing. If you have experience in any of these areas, your chances of finding the right position is good. Past experience, however, is not the only way to find great roofing jobs.

There are many companies that are willing to train unskilled workers in the industry. On-the-job training is a tool available to job seekers. This allows them to get the experience they are lacking. It also helps them to advance in this immense field and qualify for future positions. The more training and experience you have, you will be able to expect higher salaries. Increasing your skill sets will make you a more flexible roofing worker.

The roofing industry is one of the country’s most important skilled fields. It doesn’t matter, whether you’re speaking of commercial or residential roofing. This is definitely one of the popular industries for job seekers right now. Roofing actually involves the process of building and protecting specific types of roofs. New businesses and new homes require materials that will secure their roofs for years to come.

Sealing is another important process in the roofing field. Structural framing and preventative measures are necessary to prolong the life of a roof. Experienced and inexperienced workers are looking for job opportunities. Some of the most popular positions in this industry include foremen, repair workers, installers, and field superintendents. Each of these jobs requires skilled and experienced workers.

There are many portions of this industry where on-the-job training is possible. This allows job seekers the opportunity to gain very important skills and experience. The more of these a worker has, the more they can expect to get paid. Contractors and businesses are looking for dependable and experienced people to work for them. These workers become valuable tools for successful business.

This is one reason for contractors and roofing companies to advertise well. The internet has become the main way to find businesses in roofing. Jobs are posted on thousands of boards, which display the immenseness of this field. Companies have many considerations to make when it comes to promoting their businesses. This is one reason why websites are so important.

Here is where web surfers will come to find specific roofing companies. A great website is not only a place to advertise. It is also a place to describe your company and list your price plans. Discovering the best way to price a roofing job is an important consideration. Because of the many businesses in the industry, you must price competitively. This doesn’t mean, however, that you under value the expertise of roofing.

Commercial, residential, and industrial roofing are crucial components to the building process. They are important for new structures, as well as, existing buildings. Proper maintenance for roofs helps to ensure the integrity of the overall building. Roofing professionals are necessary for making repairs. Commercial and industrial roofing can be quite complex, requiring the expertise skilled workers.

Often you will find roofing websites with review opportunities. Customers are able to compliment or critique services they have purchased. This allows potential customers to decide on specific roofing contractors. Joining business associations are also a terrific way to prove your competence in the roofing industry.

With the tight economy, people are looking at any way possible to save money. One of the most expensive items is your home, and it will require maintenance no matter how much money you have. There are a few tips that you can use to save money on roofing jobs. Some of the best tips are to try to get a freelance roofer, use different materials, or do it yourself (DIY) roofing.

While getting a freelance roofer may seem like a hard thing to do, it really is not. There are many ways that you can find a qualified roofer who is local to your area. For example, you can look on a local classified ads website, such as Craigslist or an online version of your local newspaper. You can also go to local home improvement stores and see if they have bulletin boards where contractors can post their fliers. Freelance roofers are usually not associated with a company, or are doing additional jobs while the company they are working for either has nothing for them to do or they squeeze extra jobs in during their free time. They bring the same great experience and quality of work to you, but at a fraction of the price. The freelance roofers are also much more kind about when they will work on your roof, however, you may need to be flexible as they are not as always readily available as a regular roofing contractor.

Many people believe that asphalt shingles are the only type of roofing material that you can use. However, they are missing out on some of the most ingenious ways to cover your roof! Depending upon several different factors, you may be able to save money on your roof by switching to materials like metal, or wood shingles. While the different materials being used may change the appearance of your home, it can lower the cost of your project dramatically.

Doing your own roof by yourself is another option. This type of idea is great for people who are good with their hands and have completed similar projects before. You may want to enlist the help of some other family members or a handy neighbor, but it will dramatically reduce the cost of your roofing. With the tough economy, you want to do anything you can to make sure that cost is as low as possible. Use these tactics in combination, when used together, they can save you even more! photo credit: alancleaver_2000
